Can I configure my notebook to display a reminder message telling me to unplug it from mains power when I shut down? My operating system is Win2K.

I think there are some utilities out there available that will let you change the shut down 'Splash Screen' then you could draw your own one saying unplug from mains power as ur splash screen message.
Try tweakui i think that has it

You could get a VB script that makes a popup box that requires you to click OK on and make it run at shutdown/logoff.

i see a problem.... when you want to unplug you notebook, it should already be shut down right? like, can't display anthing on the screen... so the reminder is no good.

How about writing on the case with twink? :D
or a sticky note?
or put cellotape on it and write with vivid... :D
