at this time windows XP service pack 1 is almost finished (anyone know when is due out?)
I dont know if a new system would come with the service pack but you can always download the bits you need form the MS site.
the service pack won't add any new functions it will just remove a few hundred bugs and introduce a dozen new bugs :-)
as for the real question of when to buy??
when you have the cash or when there is a good intrest deal going
if you wait for the next cool thing to come on to the market there will be a faster/better version just around the bend.
A friend of mine dident want to get a PC when 900Mhz was the fastest becuase 1Ghz was comming very soon and when 1Ghz did come out he decided to wait for the 1.2Ghz..........
last week he tole me he will wait for the 3Ghz mark.........
