Fan noise

12-04-2002, 07:39 AM
Every time the weather starts to cool down, my pc starts making an awful droning sound. It used to disappear after warmup, but now it just continiues. Someone told me that it could need a drop of oil, but where? on the fan? I assume it would need something like sewing machine oil?
PS. This is the best site ever for probs.

The noise comes from the bearing bush having worn. In my opinion, attempting to oil it could be disasterous. The oil may quieten it for a while, but will cause dust to bind and thicken the lubrication, eventually bringing the fan to a stop - with potential disaster for whatever the fan is cooling. Replacement is the best option.
