halflife game patch

I've updated to the latest game patch for halflife, tfc etc....
Now i cannot get a connection with 'won' servers, it tries three different ones west ,central ,east but cannot connect.
it says i have an invalid internet connection. i obviously dont because i was playin the game just before i installed the patch. (by the way if i go back to the old patch the game cant go into any servers because the protocol has changed from 1.107 to 1.108.)
any ideas???? :0
