Outlook 10s default security settings include blocking a raft of file types, including a .exe file just sent to me to update some other software. Is there any way to change the security settings other than getting exchange server?

Unless the network administrator has created a security policy on the mail server (which is sounds like),

Tools * Options and the Security tab.

Beware of mandatory profiles.
