Hey, stop taking Kermit's name in vain.

Kermit is a magnificent software project. It's actually a protocol, but it has been WIDELY implemented. It got people transferring files between all sizes and brands of computers before the Internet was running.

You want Kermit for: Apple II (not Mac), Commodore, IBM mainframes, Burroughs A-series, IBM PC, CP/M machines, PDP11, Vax, PDP8, Amiga, Sun, or just about any machine under the sun. Just go to the Kermit site at Columbia university in New York.

Started to be just for serial line communications, but there is an Ethernet mode too.

(They did get permission to use the name...).
