My new iMac with a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105 drive has consistently required two disks to burn a single copy. When I select BURN, it asks for a blank DVD. I insert a DVD-R disk, it rolls through stage 1 through 3 encoding merrily, then at stage 4, when the burning really starts, it spits out the DVD and asks for a new blank DVD.
Re-inserting DVD #1 doesn't work. It keeps spitting it out. Inserting a new DVD blank #2 always works. However, then DVD #1 is 'written' on, and will no longer function as a blank. It is a confounding, and kind of pricey, problem. I did find if I make multiple copies of a burn using iDVD, then I only waste the first disc. All the others during that burn session work fine.
Any help is appreciated.
Other info: iDVD v. 4.0.1, iMac 1GHZ with 756 MB RAM running 10.3.4.

I am also experiencing this problem. I have the latest updates installed on a 17" G4 iMac with a Sony DVD-R. This is very annoying and I am wasting valuable discs! Can anyone help?

Since my original post, I didn't go back and test the 1st disk to see if it, in fact, did burn a copy onto that before asking for a 2nd disk. One of the posters said that was what was happening, but it didn't make sense to me since it ejected the 1st Disk BEFORE the encoding stage.
Have you tried playing the 1st disk to check it?
