I think this is the same problem that I mentioned in this other thread:
http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?p=204047
Quitting and re-launching Mail.app fixed the problem.

I can't quit Mail, and don't want to do a force-quit just yet, could it be that Mail is updating everything right now, which is why I can't quit it?
I can connect to my email accounts fine, but when I 'get mail' although activity viewer shows I'm downloading emails, it's not displaying any new messages?
thanks,
Jon

panic over, deleted contents of home>library>mail>bundles (panther.bundle) or someting, and mail is now importing everything ok.
this should surely be taken care of by the OS when upgrading?

Whjy should the OS, and Apple, have to take care of making sure their software works with every third party pluggin that was made ? It is normally the job of people who created these pluggins to make sure they are compatible with the new OS, not the opposite as I think Apple already has enough stuff to manage when it comes to compatibility without doing everyone's work.
