Logitech Mouse Software |
obtix 05-02-2005, 02:46 PM I installed the Logitech software for OS X to control the buttons on my MX700. Everything I reboot the computer my mouse speeds up to the fastest setting (but the slide bar does not reflect those setting and just clicking on the slide bar makes the settings normal again).

I have the same mouse, and a similar problem, mine does it whenever I plug the base back in after being unplugged. I wish I had a solution for you, but I could never figure it out myself, besides just resetting it manually every time.
I thought about uninstalling Logitech's software and using USB Overdrive, but I also have a Logitech keyboard and sort of need the control center for that too. Also, I think $20 for a driver is ridiculous. But if you can accept the price and you don't need LCC to drive your keyboard too, maybe that will help.
obtix 05-02-2005, 04:59 PM Have you tested to see if USB Overdrive fixes the problem? Did anyone ever try contacting Logitech?

Actually, after seeing this I did a bit of searching and found out that a lot of people have the same problem, but Logitech doesn't seem to care enough to fix it. Sad, because their mice are far better than anything else I've seen.
So I started a trial of USB Overdrive just to check it out. It needs a lot more configuration to get the mouse working like before, but I'm not having the acceleration problem anymore. At least, it hasn't happened yet after unplugging and replugging a couple times.
My only problem with all this is that the whole top part of my keyboard is dead. I never really used the launch keys anyway, but I'll miss the media keys and volume knob, unless I can find something to run those.
Anyway, I'd say give USB Overdrive a try. It fixes that particular problem but I haven't decided yet whether to buy it when the trial is over.
My Logitech MX510 also crumbled after Tiger. I finally bit the bullet and purchased USB Overdrive. had I known how brilliant this little app was, I would have dumped the Logitech software a year ago.
check it out. It's very well written, and adds more functionality than Logitech.
voldenuit 05-02-2005, 07:53 PM USBOverdrive is indeed very cool.
Perhaps gently prodding the author might get us support for those space-cadet keyboards (http://www.catb.org/~esr/jargon/html/S/space-cadet-keyboard.html) from Logitech and others as well ?
Nafai 05-06-2005, 08:59 AM Same here. MX700, and LCC wonks out the mouse speed and acceleration, and resets itself on login/restart. I never had any problems with it in Panther, which is why this change shocked me.
Tiger is recognizing every mouse button WITHOUT LCC, though. My extra buttons are used for Dashboard and Expose, and you can set the mouse buttons through that Preference Pane. The only thing I'm missing is CMD+Click with one of my buttons (which I use to open links in new tabs.)
There's got to be a way to hook that without spending $20 for USB Overdrive, when the OS blatantly is interpreting all of the mouse clicks anyway.
obtix 05-06-2005, 11:32 AM I got it... first of all in Tiger I do NOT have the mouse speed issue! :-)
Also, in logitech's software you can do an advanced click to me the "Open Apple (Option) + Click" and p00f new tabs are working right!
Nafai 05-06-2005, 01:29 PM That's what I'm saying, obtix. If I use LCC with my MX700, the mouse speed wonks out. I know how to set up the extra buttons with LCC, but I'm not willing to use that at the expense of improper mouse acceleration.
What exactly did you do to make the problem go away?
obtix 05-06-2005, 01:33 PM My problem magicly went away when I upgraded to Tiger. Before (when I was in Panther) I just opened up my mouse setting after every reboot and it was fixed also.
Nafai 05-06-2005, 01:54 PM That's the opposite problem everyone else is having, heh. In Panther it preserved fine. The rest of us didn't have the problem until Tiger. FWIW, opening up the mouse setting every reboot is hardly what I'd call a fix, but rather one of the symptoms of the problem.

DavidRavenMoon 05-06-2005, 03:00 PM I have an MX700 and have used USB Overdrive since before I had it! I have never used the Logitech software, since I was already using it with an MS mouse.
I've never had a problem with the mouse changing speed.
I'd say give USBO a try.
I love my MX700!
