I use an XBridgeDSL (available from apple online), its a Ethernet modem so is much more reliable than a USB moden and should work with any updated system as it has no drivers at all also it's setup application comes pre-configured for all the major UK ISPs.

the one they give you for PC's works with mac os 10.3. I worked for a company in the midlands until recently and 2 of the girls that had powerbooks and (i think) USB modems (as provided by BT) and they had no problems connecting. They do have a standalone application that they have to use to connect but they never complained of it not working.
but you might want to check this out though

Also If it were me (and its not) I wouldn't use BT, I am currently with NTL and its faster, cheaper and works flawlessly. I was with Blueyonder and they were really good too.
look at this link too, its just the router that doesnt support 10.3 NOT the modem, alot of places say they dont support OSX but thats coz they are being lazy most of the time the modems work better on a mac than a peecee

Hi there,
I am looking to upgrade to PANTHER from os x 10.1.5. Though I am having difficulty finding which modem works best for BT broadband. The one I currently use (alcatel speed touch) works fine for my current os but it will not work for PANTHER.
If you are talking about the green frog , It DOES work with Panther.
you need the correct drivers from, Alcatel.
Their site

Saying that I now use a ethernet (not usb) modem mad by Netgear.
DG834G
54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Adapter
This was very easy to install and the web interface setup is very good.
look at the Netgear site for other models, like ones that do not have wifi.
The one thing to note with using the ethernet modem over the usb frog.
Is you do not get a connection status using the internet connect and menu bar display.
Also it much more reliable than the frog.

Will I need anything else to use this (forgive my ignorance). People talk of routers and airport jargon and I'm not quite sure what they mean. I don't really feel the need to go wireless just yet. The simpler the better !

No all you'll need is the XBridge (or equivalent), you only really need a router if you have more than one computer you need to hook up, the same with airport really.
