I'll try to keep this short and sweet.
I have a Mac mini, with an external drive (HFS+). The drive has two directories: "Audio", and "Personal".
I have installed Sharepoints so I can connect to the drive from my Windows machine. I have created a group (via Sharepoints) called "Friends". I have given my user accound read/write permissions on the drive, and both directories. I have given the "Friends" group read permisions on the "Audio" directory, and no rights on the "Personal" directory.
I have double checked the permissions using the "info" window on the drive. I have also verified the permissions from a terminal using "ls -l". Both Sharepoints and the Apple Network Information tool (I think that's what it's called) list the "Friends" group, and lists the usernames that I have assigned to that group. Everything seems to be fine.
My user (the admin) has no problems with anything. Other users, however, cannot access the drive at all. When they try and access the drive, a message pops up saying they do not have permission. There is a little red circle with a minus sign on the drive icon (which, incidently, is a picture of a folder, not a firewire drive).
What am I missing? This is driving me CRAZY! I think the problem is caused by Sharepoints, but from what I understand, Sharepoints is just a GUI for modifications to the samba.conf file (among other things).
My goal is to have an external drive that has two directories: one that my friends (read only) and myself (read/write) can access, and one that only I can access (read/write). The rest of the world cannot access anything on the drive. Also, the drive needs to be accessable to Windows.
Thanks in advance.
lots of perm questions today i see lol

Any ideas? I've been searching, and cannot find anything to fix this issue. It's really frustrating! It can't be this hard to share out a drive in OS X. I mean, it's a cinch in Windows.
