Did I go through... Is the Pope Catholic?!
I had spent a good few hours going through that thread and checking the suggested fixes on my Mac... Oh boy, I wish I could fix my Mac's Sleep problem!

Doing a fast user switch to another account and checking auto Sleep from there resulted in the same result - it doesn't work.
That is not a good troubleshooting technique as the original user's programs are still running if you do that.
You should log out and then log in as a different user.

Done just that - didn't work either though.
