I am trying to find out a fix for my constant computer freezes. I admit that I am new here (this is post ONE) so I apologize if this is old news in this forum but I have read some of the posts on trouble shooting where I can find them but I couldn't find the final version of the discussion. A redirect is appreciated if necessary.
My trouble is that my computer freezes constantly, sometimes 5-10 times in an hour sometimes only once in a 5 hour evening. It is usually when I am using netscape 7.2 but sometimes it is when it gets to the desktop (it stops loading) and other times I am in the splash screen loading local disks, internet or firewall extensions. It just stops.
Details : Beige tower G3 upgraded to G4 via Zif card (1998-9 ish) 466 mhz 748 MB ram. OS 10.2.6 with OS 9.2.2 in classic. 80 GB HD partitioned into 8GB for OS 10 and 65 GB storage and 4 GB holding a clean OS 9 for repair/boot protection. I also have a 30 GB HD from my old days holding a few pieces of software that won't run in the OS 10 mode because of low Vid Ram. I boot directly to this OS 9.2.2 classic mode when necessary where I have few crashes.
Thanks in advance for any help and advise.
Attempts to resolve.
I have tried to delete Netscape preferences but I can't seem to find them as I could in the old days.
Disk Utility found errors it could not fix.
I recovered a non-mounting drive that holds my OS 10 using a less than recent version of Norton Utilities fixing some catalog B-tree issues and a "thread" issue plus a few other things.
The Disk Utility says that the Errors seem to be fixed.
I have tried to reinstall the OS 10 system but for some reason I can't boot to the install CD (third party CD Rom??) from the keyboard.
I have also tried a suggested UNIX boot cmd-s typing fsck-y but I don't get any response doing the cmd-s key combo. And I know nothing of UNIX.
I have NOT updated firmware in ages as I don't have any experience doing this.
I have copied the recent crash log below. This same log appears almost all of the time except for the PID number changes.
This is my console log and crash log for today.
