Hello,

I own a iBook G4 with Tiger. It shipped with a german keyboard.
In addition I've got an external usb keyboard with us-layout.
Is anyone aware of a possiblity to use the us-layout for the external keyboard and at the same time the german one for the build in?
I just want to have öäüß avaiable without switching the keyboard-layout.

You can only have one keyboard layout available at any time. Every keyboard connected to the machine uses what the system sets. The system won't make a difference between keys typed on one keyboard or they other. They are simply key entries.
One thing I'd suggest is to set a shortcut to swap keyboard layouts so you can do it very quickly on either keyboard.

Send you ibook back. Call whoever sent it to you and tell them. Unless for some reason you want the german keyboard.

But, aren't those characters available in the US keyboard layout by hitting (option-u) then o, a, or u for the first three, or (option-s) for the last?
