printing: CUPS: lpadmin - automatic selection of ppd for given printer

Hi,

i work with an Active Directory environment, where every printer is integrated with their print queues on Samba servers. i want to automatically add every printer of an OU to all the MACs (10.4.1) in that OU. I wrote a bash script to read the necessary information from the AD, and add the printers via the lpadmin cmd.
selecting the right ppd file is where i am stuck. i'd like the system to automatically select the right ppd, instead of parsing a list to do that. this could be possible:

when you add a printer via the MAC OS X GUI interface, it attempts to automatically select the right ppd-file for the selected printer, if you have several installed in the /usr/share/cups/model/ directory. this actually works quite well.

when using the cmd lpadmin, you have to submit the specific filename to get the right ppd file for the printer.

Do you have any solution as how to make automatic ppd selection availible with the lpadmin command?
Suggestions would be very welcome

Y not just build out one machine and then copy your CUPS directory to all the other machines and then you don't have to setup anything. As far as PPDs; if they are not installed correctly then the setup will not find them.
