Forcing Finder to Scroll Up&Down and forcing finder text labels to be longer

Helllo,

I have a couple issues with the Finder on 10.4.2

Is there anyway to force the Finder to always scroll up and down? I've noticed that it (seemingly randomly) picks whether to scroll left or right. I'd like it to scroll up and down all the time.

Also, is there any way to make the length of the text labels in Finder bigger in the icon view? I hate that files named klattsfilethatisnamed2.txt and klattsoldfilethatisnamed2.txt both end up being klatts...amed2.txt in the icon view
