Cannot Upload with 'Connect to Server' and ftp disk

All of my ftp disks mounted with 'Connect to Server' are read-only :(
;
I am using OS X Tiger 10.4.2
When I connect to server with:
ftp://name:pass@myserver.cc/www/folder/
;
I am getting read only access for the mounted disk :(
The same ftp address works fine in Transmit where I can upload and download properly.
;
As a test, I tried removing the password:
ftp://name@myserver.cc/www/folder/
The ftp disk did not ask for a password.
It just launched as read-only
;
can any one help a Tiger Newbie ?
many thanks

This is just a (much lamented) limitation of Finder - it can only mount FTP volumes as read-only.
The solution is (as you have found) to use a 3rd-party FTP client program.
