After updating to 10.2.4 and having no problems for 2 days, I am now unable to boot with my cable modem plugged in. I hang up while the machine is "Waiting for Network Information Service." After booting with the modem unplugged, I am able to re-plug it in and get online without any trouble. This is a real pain in the ass. Any suggestions?

Look in /var/log/syslog for what is going on while it is "Waiting for Network Information Service." Posting the relevant lines would be very helpful for debugging.
I coulda sworn I remember a hint about this situation, but I couldn't find it. Does this seem familiar to anyone else?

I am totally Unix ignorant. Where do I find " /var/log/syslog" ?

Open the terminal and type
cat /var/log/system.log
The contents of system.log will be displayed on the screen. You can then scroll up and copy the info from your last boot.
(Sorry, I got the name of the file wrong the first time.)
