Low Level Formatter?

Howdy-
I have a drive thats giving me fits when trying to install/search a portion of the drive, so I'm guessing the sectors have gone bad. I've tried a formatting via Disc Utility a few times, but its not helping.

Does anyone have a good utility (or is there one built in?) that will let me low level format this sucker so I dont have to call up Apple about warranty junk, or pay 100 bucks for a new drive?
