I have obtained a used G4, with 9.0 and would like to move my OS X and applications over to the G4 from my iMac; replacing the old OS back on the iMac. How is this done, without using a backup program? I recall reading about using the firwire connections to have one of the disks as a main and the other a slave? But I am unable to remember where and when I read about it.
I have had no problems that others have expirienced with OS X, and have a wonderful setup that has taken me many hours to customize and I really don't want to have to do all that work again.

it's called firewire target disk mode (fwtdm). this might get you started.

might get you the hits you need.

if your going to copy files rather than swap disks, you'll want to use the ditto command or utilities of that ilk (carbon copy cloner). need more info? just ask.

to avoid fwtdm, if the G4 OS9 install is expendable, you might slave your imac disk on the bus, and wipe/partition that OS9 sucker, ditto copy your OSX install and be done.

The paragraphs above have been deleted by WillyT (I had a hardware solution but decided not to post it :D really!)

Either way(software transfer or hardware transfer) if you are using fstab for a swap partition remove it till you get new results from df.
