Megabits to Megabytes

Ok, This seems like a newb question probably, but how fast is a megabit/sec to a megabyte/sec. My main reason for asking this is, if i were to have a lacie drive hooked up by firewire 800 to my computer, how fast would files transfer in terms of bytes not bits.

Thanks, Daniel.

There are eight bits in a byte, so you just divide by eight.

Although correct, styrafomes answers is only half of the story.

It means, if the drive in the FW box was able to sustain that speed, you could go at a 100 MByte/s.

Unfortunately, there are no drives yet to be that fast.

So in fact, you get pretty much the same speed that you would if you hooked up the same drive to an internal ATA-interface.

FW 400 is already slower than modern drives, such an adapter would be the speed-limiting factor in the chain.
