Built-in Firewall

I realize that OSX has a built-in firewall, but how effective is this, and how can I 'monitor' it? There is very little documentation on this, and I'd love to learn more about this.

Thanks in advance.

Check out man ipfw in the terminal, that will give you a bunch of commands and info about the built-in firewall. Also, a program called BrickHouse (http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=9103&db=mac) gives you a GUI to work with in configuring the firewall.

I have made a web page about some aspects of the firewall as well as sample rules that I use at this web page: http://www3.sympatico.ca/dccote/firewall.html
