I use AOL for OS9 and OSX and compuserve for same on an ibook 2001.
I have many problems signing on, from the one you described, sometimes over 50% of the time.
I use a PC also to sign on to same, and have observed that the PC does sign on without a glitch nearly every time.
I have contacted AOL and Compuserve about this several times in the past few weeks and hope they can clear this issue up.
I see several possible issues:
Software problem initializing the modem
Modem not accepting our (AOL and CS) commands
dropped connections are common, but only on Mac.
Connection problems between modem and remote?? I often cannot get connection, or the handshaking procedures stall out..
I am glad they have OSX native softwares, but they still need work. I am now using refresh (betas) versions that are newer than GM versions.
BTW, tonight the programs are functioning flawlessly.
