Learning OS X to "learn" Unix

Since the underlying technology of OS X is BSD, would it be fair to say "Learning Unix on OS X will help me learn Unix for any platform?"

Of course I'm talking about from the command line. There are jobs out there that call for HP-UX, Solaris, BSD, and Linux administrators. I know there are some differences between each one and it also depends which shell is running on any given Unix OS, but is the "Unix" that exists in the command line of OS X the same as the other flavors? The Oreilly books (Learning Unix, Learning TCSH, etc.) seemed geared towards Unix in general and not specifically towards just one flavor. I'm trying to enhance my Unix skills and the only computers I own are a G4/533 and a TiBook. No Intel machines for me.

Regards,
Mark

well, i think that's what a lot of us are doing here; learning UNIX. to answer your question, yes, learning the tools in the command line environment will help you learn the crux of UNIX for most platforms (except the really bizarre ones, like SCO-UNIX ;)

some of the differences in flavors of UNIX are vast. for instance, many resellers add their own admin utilities and switches to commands, or completely retool commands.

but, for the most part, all Unices run under the same basic OS philosophies. some books try and cover the latest, popular usage trends in Unices. add AIX to your list.
