Slow OS9 clients when connecting to OSX 10.1.2

I am running OSX 10.1.2 on a G4 Dual 800MHz, with an external RAID connected to an Adaptec SCSI card.
The system disk is formatted MacOS Extended and the external RAID is formatted UFS. This needs to be UFS as the application running has to have the data volume as UFS (Xinet FullPress).

The problem is that when the OS9 clients logon to the server and open folders with multiple sub folders, they have to wait in excess of 30 seconds or more for the window to show what is in the folder. When they do the same check on a folder with only files in, the window displays the files almost instantaneously.
If they do not know where the file they require is, they then use Sherlock on the OS922 client and this could be sitting around for over 5 mins before it comes back with any results.

Test have been carried out searching for files on the MacOS extended disk and this runs a lot faster. Also when we use an OS10 client the search is faster too!

The problem seems to lie with the OS922 clients communicating to the UFS volume on the OSX 10.1.2 machine.

Is there a setting on the OS9 clients or even on the OSX10.1.2 unit that I need to change ?

Many thanks in advance for any help!
