ssh - don't want to use password

Hi,
I'm trying to set up an automatic data transfer with rsync and ssh and eventually run it with cron.
the rsync and ssh work fine but I have problems bypassing the password that ssh asks for.
I'm not an experience unix user and I get spontaneously dyslectic every time I have to open a man page, and I'm getting very frustrated over all different config files and authorization keys. Does anybody know of a step by step idiot instructions?

I did generate a key on my computer with key-gen and made a .pub copy to the remote machine in ~/.ssh, there I renamed it to autarization_key2 when that did not work I skipped the 2 and it still did not work. In the machine I'm trying to move data from ("my computer") I made a config file under ~/.ssh with the following content:

Host remotehost
User root
Compression yes
Protocol 2
RSAAuthentication yes
StrictHostKeyChecking no
ForwardAgent yes
ForwardX11 yes
IdentityFile /root/.ssh/remotehost.id_dsa

I found some ssh stuff under /etc but i was told not to bother about them, is this correct? ignore the ssh_config, hostconfig etc?
Any information in the subject will be appreciated (unless I'm told to go back and read the man-page, I've heard that enough today...)
