VCR to DVD problems

Hello all, I am a new member, and I am trying to burn 1950's movies (colour & b/w) to dvd using the following method.
1. Capturing from an analog video to an MPEG format using Fusion-mpeg2. I use the highest setting.
2. Authoring, using Ulead videostudio7. Usually ends up about 6/7gb.
3. Backup with DVD Shrink & burning with Nero 6.
The shrink file is usually about 65% to 80%, and I always use 'deep analysis' and the 'AEC' is set at smooth or max smooth. After shrink, when viewing the VOP file, all movement is flickering. Can anybody please help .

Can't you alter the VS encoder to fit to target size? Probably not a good idea to transcode an encoded source that much.

does the captured mpeg do this too? i suppose it depends on the software but i run my captures through dvd author sometimes and dvd shrink and haven't noticed this....

Thanks guys for your suggestions. If I change the encode to fit, the result is a very fuzzy image. I will try to download 'dvd author' and give it a try. Thanks.
