After creating a movie, the video will not fill up the entire TV screen.
I use a Sony Handycam DCR-HC21 and it just doesn't fill up the TV screen after I make DVD on the computer with it.
I have looked all over the menus to increase the video size and I have found nothing.
It seems that the size of the pixels is just not big enough. It should be like 720x460 (possibly) and it is only 300-something x 200-something. (sorry, don't have the exact numbers with me right now). I have tried it in both SP and LP modes with no difference.
Now, if I just plug the camera directly into the TV to watch the raw video, it looks fine/normal. It's only when I download the video to the computer that it's not large enough to fill the TV screen.
I have used Adobe Premiere to make the video. Everything works fine as far as creating the video. However, the video displayed after it's all said-and-done just does not entirely fill up the TV screen because the digital pixel-size is not large enough.
What can I do?

the transfer from your cam to the pc COULD be the reason for the decreased resolution
the pc and the connection must be fast enough to capture the cam-source at highest resolution
HOW did you transfer the data? via usb2?
if so check your cam if it lets you transfer the data via firewire as this is faster

Yes, I connected the camera to my computer using USB2. I do have a firewire port on my PC. The camera has a "DV" port on it as well as the USB & A/V Out ports. I do not see a Firewire port on the camera though.
Why would the method of transfer affect the size of the video pixels? I'm a bit new at this, so, forgive my ignorance...

i'm not completely sure about this but i think i have heard this before
well, how can the transferring affect the size of the file recorded to your harddrive?
some cameras simply reduce the output resolution to half size (and that could be 352x576px) when the transferrate will not allow the amount of data throughput of full resolution when the method of data transfer has limited throughput
usb2 simply isnt the fastest way
but lets try it the other way around
you must have some initial source material on your pc
load this into something like virtualdubmod, go to file => file information and see what resolution this sourcematerial is in
if it is high res (7xx X 576) then whatever software you used for editing/converting your source to dvd is to blame
provide us with some more details
what tool did you use for editing/savin the dvd compliant material?

btw your DCR-HC21 does have I-LINK i.e. 1394/firewire
i saw that sony let's you burn to dvd/VCD directly
the specs you mentioned is VCD, thus i suppose you chose the wrong output format

Looking at the properties of the files that come straight out of the camera, the Dimensions are: 320x240 and 1411kbps
So, obviously that is not large enough to fill a the TV screen.
But, I see no adjustments in any of the menus on the camera to change those settings.
What do I need to do?

I just ordered a DV cable to connect via Firewire. Let's see if this helps.

Well, I received my firewire video cable today and that seems to be the trick for this. Now, my transferred raw video is in the proper size 720x480.
So, if you want to be able to do GOOD video that is TV size and quality, you have to use a DV Firewire cable when you transfer your video footage from your digital video camera to your computer.
There ya have it.

OK, now that THAT is solved. What about the video clips I have previously loaded on my PC in 320x240 size? Can it be increased to 720x480 using software? Can video be resized if it is originally loaded smaller from the camera? I didn't keep the original tapes because I figured since I have the clips on the PC now, I don't need the taped footage anymore so I recorded over the tapes.
I have many many gigs of video clips already on my PC that are in 320x240 size and I need them resized to 720.
How can that be done?
