Just a quick reminder to remember our fellow inhabitants of this planet earth I figure it is fitting to post this as so many of us will overlook others hardships and those faced w/ devastation on a level that most of us can not comprehend

so I plead to you if you’ve ever donated for the likes of dvdd dvd-rb or payed for any dvd or nero although be it a good cause and investment If you are like me and have kids who love there movies

Consider this right now there are kids who love they’re parents who are no longer w/them after the past couple day’s of flooding and gale force winds pple are left w/out any worldly possesions and some w/out loved ones

I pray that the greedy fat cat’s that are slowly taking away everything we love (dvd decrypter napster and that sort) have not turned our hearts as cold and greedy as they themselves are.

I was watching the news and thinking I wish I could help while viewing a grown man weeping for his wife (that the flood waters ripped out of his grasp) while holding a kid in each arm when it hit me we have become quite the large network between the numerous forums and if just a hand few out of the thousands take a look at the link I am providing and decide to help than quite a great help we can be

please give it a gander > http://www.redcross.org/donate/donate.html (http://www.redcross.org/donate/donate.html)

ps any admins viewing this if it need be moved please keep it visible and if you like sticky it

as we are quite a massive and powerful group as many have seen recently
ps if yo frequent other forums feel free to copy/paste this everywhere
peace

I spend 2 semesters at UNO and that city can't take more than a couple consistant inches of rain before roads become rivers. they lost 22 buildings in all but the real problems are just around the corner. water temp still in the 90's means more storms with ground oversatuated city might become a sinkhole deathtrap. Imagine a street with nothing to support it. pray for these ppl, just gotta pray.

l8nights, i don't know what you read in my post that prompted that reaction. people looting stores should be shot like the dogs they are.
just because i don't type up a paragraph about this issue, doesn't mean i don't sympathize with people in situations like that. there isn't enough compation in the world for all the suffering from 9/11's, tsunami's , starvation, war etc.... :sueme:

the looting is a natural reaction to truamatic events. With New Orleans however, the cops have trouble with the crime to begin with. you throw a class 5 Hurricane in the mix and you got trouble. Some of the most impoverished people in the US are right there in the tower projects. How many of them do you think were evacuated? The cops won't go in there unless it's to take out the dead. So now the ones who were left behind are looting from the wealthy of NO well good for them. I saw the towers and the poverty is without equal to any i've ever been witness to. Desparate times my friend, desparate times.

@ columbo I have known you to be of upstanding character in previous post but I guess after seeing that guy telling of how his wife was swept from his grasp I was just a little stirred
the confusion I guess was that I mistakenly took la to mean L.A. los angelas I thought the comment was in jest sorry I did not intend to offend

@daft this is true the area most affected is urban if not ghetto the levy that broke was in very poor repair there have been reports of negligence by the us government but in all likely hood this could have been intentional (I question their motives) just let you know of whom we can depend if it weren't for kind souls willing to give a helping hand I don't think we would have anywhere to turn

looking at msnbc right now it is much worse than they were saying yesterday, already death estimates are in the hundreds and may go to 4 digits. they're shipping off 25, 000 to houston astro dome, fear of disease outbreak---and if that's not enough(totally un-related) 719 iraqis killed to day because of a bomb hoax--they were trampled or plunged 30 feet to their death trying to escape from a bridge over the tigris river.

the only conspiracy here is the price gouging of fossil fuels. I live in Jersey and we're currently the cheapest at 2.79 a gallon. How friggin low are these gas giants that they use a catastrophy like NO to hike the price 30 cents.
both sites in NO have already made it clear that they're 2 weeks from running status. god i pity the SUV owners right now. and satans cleaning up for the oil execs in the first circle. He might run out of space at this rate.

1 Sep 2005, 11:56 PM
well that is but one theory there is the war which needs these fuel reserves and the farther gas prices rise the less the general population will/can afford to use!!

as there are more resources available to many of the big oil/energy conglomerates(?where is my dictionary)than the government itself, I think they play a bigger role in decision making than any know??

the disease could have been predicted as I think they're sewage was pumped out into the bay that is currently consuming them! do you know how hard it is to control a population that is so large when your resources for social security and medicaid have withered to nothing.

I read they are having trouble getting doctors to go down and assist due this threat. I think the NO as we all remember it is no more, I mean if it you planning the releafe effort your first job is to address where to begin the clean up. The part that gets me about this was that on the news quite a lot of people are talking about the study that was done last year that predicted this is the exact thing that would happen in a bad hurricane.

Suggestions were made to be prepared for evacuating the people and giving them food, water, clothes, tents etc.

The last guy I seen stated that a woman from FEMA stated " This is America, people don't sleep in tents", he went on to say if he seen the woman again
he would probably strangle her.

Hey lady, wherever you are, your right FEMA lets them bake in the sun with no food or water for 3-4 days, drink polluted water contaminated with urine and feces and smell it all day.

Heads should roll.

The Mayor of New Orleans Ray Nagin, (I think I got his name right) should be given the Congressional Medal Of Honor for waking everybody up with the things he said on CNN. God Bless him..the man has b a l l s!!!

The kind of inflation nwg speaks of should be criminal. In 8 months of this year we have climbed 47% ( mostly in the last 2 months). A third of the inflation in a 15th the time. I don't mind inflation, hell every raise i've gotten comes out of someones pocket. The problem is at this rate we'll be paying the same as you by this time next year, and more by the next. I read that the Hybrid cars, when involved in an accident have a 25,000 dollar fine due to the battery clean up or something. The EPA is not making alternatives very cost effective to average ppl. The kind of inflation nwg speaks of should be criminal.

I started thinking about it and it is actually nearly 15 years for that 150%. It is still too much and is mainly fuel tax. Petrol at pre-tax level is the second lowest in Europe and is the most expensive after tax (France is nearly equal with unleaded).

Diesel is now more expensive than unleaded. It used to be about 20% cheaper than unleaded. Businesses are losing money so they have to get rid of people and/or transport as they cannot afford to run them.

There has been a fuel strike a few years ago where the country went dry of petrol. Perhaps, it is time to do it again?

Onto Katrina. I can't believe the devestation left by it. I just heard that a couple of the poorest countries in the world has given aid to the US!

Barbara Bush: Things Working Out 'Very Well' for Poor Evacuees from New Orleans
By E&P Staff

Published: September 05, 2005 7:25 PM ET updated 8:00 PM

NEW YORK Accompanying her husband, former President George
H.W.Bush, on a tour of hurricane relief centers in
Houston, Barbara Bush said today, referring to the
poor who had lost everything back home and evacuated, "This is working very well for them."

The former First Lady's remarks were aired this
evening on American Public Media's "Marketplace"
program.

She was part of a group in Houston today at the
Astrodome that included her husband and former
President Bill Clinton, who were chosen by her son,
the current president, to head fundraising efforts for
the recovery. Sen. Hilary Clinton and Sen. Barack
Obama were also present.

In a segment at the top of the show on the surge of
evacuees to the Texas city, Barbara Bush said: "Almost
everyone I’ve talked to says we're going to move to
Houston."

Then she added: "What I’m hearing which is sort of
scary is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is
so overwhelmed by the hospitality.

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you
know, were underprivileged anyway, so this--this (she
chuckles slightly) is working very well for them."

Hurricane Rita has the potential to flood an area almost twice the size of New Orleans when it reaches shore early Saturday, causing tens of billions of dollars in damage to the Houston metropolitan area and plunging yet another major Gulf Coast metropolis into disarray.

A study performed last year by the engineering firm Dodson & Associates found that a Category 5 storm could inundate 369 square miles of Harris County, which contains Houston and some of its suburbs. The study estimated the total cost of a worst-case storm at $80 billion, with 75% due to flooding and the rest from wind damage.

In Galveston, Texas, where the deadliest hurricane in U.S. history killed up to 8,000 people in 1900, flooding is a virtual inevitability. "Galveston is going to suffer," city manager Steven LeBlanc said at a news conference Thursday.

The city is protected by a 16-foot seawall specifically designed to block incoming storm surges. But some forecasters said Rita could pound the barrier with waves twice that high.

Also subject to flooding are Texas City and other centers of chemical production and petroleum refining. As they did before Hurricane Katrina, environmentalists worry that Rita could cause the release of toxic pollutants at one or more of the 87 chemical plants, oil refineries or petroleum storage facilities along the Texas coast.

"Dozens of chemical plants and petroleum facilities lie in Hurricane Rita's path, many of which may not be adequately prepared to prevent toxic releases," said Tom Natan, research director of the National Environmental Trust. If this thing is still a Cat 3 or higher when it hits shore, you guys are gonna need alot of luck down there, or it will make N.O. look like a pool party.

Apparently the recent storms are part of a 20 year storm cycle for the gulf and we got another 10 years of this nonsense. My parents owned a house in Tampa until last years hurricane season. they sold at a loss because the insurance is too high now. we got some bad times ahead if those financial gurus are selling in the red, first time in there lives they ran from potential profit. proof that the apple not only falls far but then rolls into the next time zone. Jmet get out of there man, we need you in here!!!

Well, it was bad I will admit. I got up Saturday morning and looked out the back door at the lake and saw it "white capping". We (We = Amber and I, and her daughter Gabby) then all loaded up taking only the necessities. I grabbed my dogs and put them in their kennel and put them in the back seat. Off we went, well so we thought any way. lol About 2 miles down the road a "FULL SIZE" tree was ripped completely out of the ground, roots and all laying across the middle of the road. So then I had to turn around and back track about 10 miles. I finally get into town (where amber lives) and my dogs were so scared and nervous, one of them had a massive diarrhea attack all over them selves. The worst part is we couldn't roll down the windows cause it was raining so bad and I had to drive about 20MPH all the way there cause the rain was coming down so bad. It stunk so bad, you cannot even fathom the smell. Well, we arrive at Ambers house and begin to unload everything. I had to stand out in the rain and wash their kennel out. There was feces (to put it politely) all over the place. Plus they were both covered in feces. Then after I get there, we had to go back out in it as Amber's mom HAD TO HAVE her medication (it was a matter of life and death). So I drive to the local pharmacy and pick that up. On the way home, there were trees laying down every where. All of the traffic lights were out, so there was mass hysteria on the roads! I don't know what was worse, watching out for the other idiots driving or what the wind was blowing at you. I finally get back, then the power flickers on and off the rest of the day. I watched out the window as people backyard fences were uprooted and flying through the air. A tree fell and crushed Gabby's swing set (she was heartbroken). Finally at about 9:00 PM, it started to let up alittle, as it was just rainy. Woke up this morning, and it was like nothing had ever happened, aside from all the trees and limbs on the ground. Sunny and about 80 degrees outside. My mother told me they were without electricity all weekend, and it finally came back on here about 5:30AM this morning.

All in all, a unforgettable experience to say the least!

Good to be back,

jmet
