DVDs won't play on all players?

that's how the dvd world is, and it makes me mad too. you need to find a media that will suit individual players or all of them---this often requires experimentation. funny how they never mentioned what discs are compatible with their product like many manufacturers do. more info on your player can be found at videohelp.com regarding media choices.

i have also tried many different dvd's. the ones that give me no trouble are only dvd's from Verbatim. i also tried Sony, TDK and many others. and than it really depends on your dvd player which dvd's will it play or not.

different media/id play better on some players than others. from my own experience memorex have given me real good results

Update:

I contacted JVC & they confirmed that their DVD players may not be able to play certain files.

Tonight: I took the DVDs in question to Best Buy to try them out on various DVD players. The DVDs played on ALL models.....except the JVC players.

Tomorrow? The new JVC DVD player I bought is being RETURNED to Best Buy.

The moral of this story? if you use DVD-R's, Don't buy a JVC DVD player.

My DVD burner is a Dell on a Generation 4 computer.

I now have purchased 6 different dvd players... most of time its the media and speed you record.. use 2x speed.. verbatium media has been the best results..right now my sony and hitachi players are working with R plus and R minus media just fine..but get a player that says will play both plus and minus R

Funny thing is...

All my DVDR's are minus, all recorded at the same time, same speed, Etc.
They all play on every DVD player & computer except JVC.

I understand.... some players just will not play the decrypt and shrink recordings.. only suggestion I have is to get a different player...some sony players are also bad about not playing... sony designs their players that way as they are a part of disney and do not want you to be able to play other than the orginal...

I took back the JVC & considered a Sony HTS, but the fact that most of their systems do not have powered subs, I cannot justify paying an above average price for a system that uses a wimpy passive subwoofer.

I do like the looks of the Panasonic SC-HT930 system.

Why in the world would Sony manufacture and sell DVD recorders and DVD camcorders? Are you saying that they intentionally cripple their DVD players so that they will only play pressed DVD's, and therefore can't playback DVD-videos created on their own equipment?

And for the record there is no such thing as "DVD minus R". The two main DVD recordable formats are plus R and dash R.

My Sony DVD plays + and - discs just fine, bought it 2 years ago.
