To whom it may concern, FYI: I saw an ad today in CompUSA's flyer for Nero 7, $99.99, sold at register $30.00 off and a $20 rebate from Nero, total $49.99. I have no financial interest in either Nero or CompUSA, just thought for those interested in buying or upgrading, this looks like a good price - for a week, I think. I bought mine from Best Buy 2-3 weeks ago for that price also, so far am happy with it but still need to exercise it for validation. noels

Well we are on the topic, is it worth upgrading to Nero 7? I was thinking of buying one of the "real" versions of Nero, as I have the OEM version of Nero 6, so features are limited. Should I stick to Nero 6 and buy the Ultra Edition of that, or is 7 worth upgrading to?

For certain reasons I installed the latest ver 7. As you can't have both the old and new at the same time installed - Nero 6 had to go.
The GUI of Nero 7 is a joke. Old 'Close' buttons are gone and just to select the files you want to burn by right-clicking is not allowed any more. Also seen reports on some bugs that needs to be solved. The buffer bar is gone even if you select to show it.
The only really nice thing is that the actual burning speed can be showed with a setting in the GUI and not as before - by a registry hack.
If you just use it for burning or/and Nero Recode 2 - hold your horses and wait to upgrade it. Perhaps there will be a nice upgrade price one shiny day.
It's true that there will not be any new functions introduced in the ver 6 - only small updates/bugfixes will be done.

Ah IC. Still a very easy thing to do. And, I don't know if this offer is still valid, but for a while, Nero was offering FREE upgrades from Nero 6 UE to Nero 7 UE. This would allow me to buy the best one, 6, while getting 7 as well. Hopefully by Christmas (it would be a gift if anything :-)) it will still be there.

Hi drfsupercenter,
Just went to Nero.com to check out the terms of their upgrade offer - if you buy Nero 6 retail from 30 September until 30 November (at full retail price of $99.99) you can get in on the free upgrade to 7. Well, anyhow, you get both versions that way, even if it is a C note. But alas, I think you can only run one version on your computer at a time, but like you say, could be good for gifting (not sure that's legal). If you bought Nero 6 before 30 September you can register at the web site and qualify for a special (unannounced) price, but you need to send them your receipt. So who's got a receipt a year or so later??? I could maybe send them a piece of my Nero 6 box... :) noels
