Why no more Civ: Call to Power?

I was digging through old games and pulled out Civilization: Call to Power 2. I forgot how cool it is. Why did they never continue along those lines? In some ways, it's better than Civ3 and 4.

First, the sheer scope is better. I like how it doesn't end in the modern age. You go right through to the future. You can even build orbital habitats.

There are alot of unique units, too. Like the Slaver, Cleric, Evangelist, etc. Put together with the religion and culture aspects of the later Civ games, they could be great units.

Is there a reason they didn't make a modernized version of it?

Commercially not succesful enough, I'd guess.

And they got the rights to Civilization after Microprose (Civ I & II) went bankrupt, but IIRC after CtP II, Firaxis regained the rights, leading to Civ III & IV, and probably V (Firaxis hinted that after the succes of Civ IV, another one would almost be inevitable).

Ladiesman and I agree on something!

IS THIS A SIGN OF THE APOCALYPSE?!

...seriously, someone should make a CTP mod for Civ 4. Or something.

Because the scope of the thing, plus the cool features, are all fun to play with.

It was pretty cool, yeah. I especially liked the way you could grow huge cities, and the way the armies worked. I dug it up a while ago, and played a bit; unfortunately, one thing I'd forgotten was how very, very slow it was. There's a huge number of buildings available, and most of them take a long time to build.

Basically there was potential there, but it was never developed properly. Maybe the dev team of Civ4 can do something with it; they certainly did a good job on Civ4.

I hear it's rather good. A total conversion to CTP. Might be considered as a sequel.

I never bought a normal Civ game. I do have both CTPs though!:)

I agree that the scope of the game is far better and if a third one came out I;d snap it up right away. There is nothing like hunting a wormhole while bombing your opponents from orbit!:drevil:
