Hi, Can anyone tell this newbie if I can install OS X 10.4 Tiger from my set of iBOOK G4 installation disks onto my iMAC G4? I don't want to have to buy new Tiger software to upgrade the iMAC. Oh, I don't have access to the iBOOK anymore so cannot link it as an option. I just get "cannot install this software on this computer" messages. What files should I use from the disks? TA muchly.....:D

Sorry, but doing what you want to do is a violation of the license agreement for OS X. When they provide a copy with a new machine, it's intended for that machine only. If you want additional installations of 10.4, you need to pay for them.
If you have several computers, Apple sells a "family pack" that gives you a license for 5 installations on computers you own. It costs less than 2 individual copies.

Also to add to what giskard22 said, I belive install disks that come with your iBook are likley labled "iBook G4 Mac OS X Install Disc #", meaning they are only for iBooks and won't install on anything but the iBook it was ment for.

Tough. I don't want to have to buy a copy of the latest version of MS Office so I manage to make do with the version I have.
These forums do not support software piracy in any way shape or form.

I received the following response via email from 'parkski' and I post it here by his request:
Whoa there Hayne, you have spent too long at your computer. Not everyone is out to fleece these companies you know, hence my original question. The two replies were of value and informative, yours was just insulting and suggested I support piracy, I don't. I would appreciate you posting my reply on the thread. Maybe you can allow people the benefit of the doubt, particularly those without the same level of understanding in these matters.
Sorry if you found my response insulting. It wasn't intended that way.
Nevertheless, installing software that you do not have a proper license for is considered software piracy. And as others have explained above, the license for the copy of OS X that you got with your iBook only allows you to use it on that iBook. If you sell your iBook, you are supposed to include the disks that you got with it.
