Automatically loading (mounting) DMG files upon startup?

Hello all,

I just received my new macBook Pro and am very new to the MacOSX operating system. Please bear with me if this question is rather simplistic.

I have downloaded some *.dmg files for Firefox, tomato, etc. and would like these files to be automatically mounted upon startup so all I would have to do is click on the Icon (desktop or launchpad) and the program will start. Currently I have to double click the *.dmg file to mount the image then I can run the program.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Oh and so far I love my new Mac.

Thanks,

pip9ball

You want to get the applications out of the dmg package. Mount the dmg and drag the app icon to your Applications folder (or anywhere else). Now, toss the dmg in the trash. Most likely there is no point in keeping it.

To have apps launch upon start-up, like FireFox... Open the System Preference (Windows lingo = "Control Panel"). The icon looks like a light switch -- should be in Dock, but if not, click the blue apple in the upper left corner.

Now, go to "Accounts" and then there is a tab for "Login Items". You can browse or you can simply drag and drop the app in the box. If you check the check box, then the app will auto launch upon install, but will not be visible on the desktop (a nice feature).

Simpler...Drag the icon of the program to your dock. Then right-click (or command-click if you have a one-button mouse) on the dock icon and select "Open at Login".

They are correct, but doesn't look like you want the actaull app to start at login. You just want a icon to click on and not need to open the .dmg file.
Follow either of the directions above, just leave out the "Open at Login" options if you do not want them to start at login.

My mistake if that's what you really wanted to do.
