Power outage

While I was out this evening, the powerlead to the Mac (probably in sleep mode) became loosened by my kids,so that when I returned and eventually got it turned on,the clock had gone back to 1970.That was easy to sort, but might there be any other lurking alterations that I don't know about?

Pulling the plug shouldn't have reset set the clock. It means your battery has died or is dying. If you leave the computer on all the time, it shouldn't be a problem, if not, replace it.

You might find that some applications (3rdf aprty) that have time limits or expire after certain, that kinds of thing, may be affected.
But if you reset the clock back and they run now, you should experience any further issues from them.
If they do try, uninstalling reinstalling them.
