Does it go away if you choose some other ScreenSaver? Is the screensaver one you downloaded, or one of the standard choices?

first, everything runs fine

i was using the "itunes artwork" (factory) screen saver. have changed it and will see.

do you know to what the first post's message refers?

yep. that's it. must be some 'baaaaaad' music. switched between screensavers and only "itunes artwork" gave me those (posts 1 and 2) messages

if only there were macosxhints for the rest of life........................

My guess is that one or more pieces of album artwork in your iTunes library have malformed JPEG headers. Rooting them out, however, might be more trouble than its worth.
