Which university for me to choose? |
Hello. I received offer from University of North London,University of Westminster and Richmond American International university which provide full-time MBA programs.However,i'm not familiar with u.k universities.I have already checked assessment of each university's MBA program,however,University of North London and University of Westminster are almost equally assessed.Furthermore,Richmond University is an American university,therefore, I can not manage to figure out assessment for it.I have to make a good but quick choice on that because i am planning to take pre-course english course prior to the start of my MBA.Any advice you can offer would be appreciated.Thanking you.

Jason Howard 19-02-2002, 10:02 PM Congrats on getting into not just one but three schools.
With respect to deciding between the three the only thing I can suggest you do is think back to why you chose those three schools in the first place. I'm sure you had a personal ranking in the back of your mind when you were applying.
I know the MBA at Westminster used to be accredited by the Association of MBA's. NB it isn't now and it was the Westminster Business School in Marlyebone and not Harrow which was accredited.
If you're looking for final confirmation then why not contact the schools and ask to be put in touch with current/past students. Tell them you have 3 offers and need more info. If you get in touch with students at these schools then post your findings back on this discussion - it would be interesting to know. I'll also contact the schools to get more info.
That's all for now,
Jason
Thank you for your advice.I will take your advice immediately.I am going to enroll with MBA program starting in February next year.When it comes to University of Westminster, February Intake for their MBA will take place in Harrow which is not accredited by AMBA.What is my benefit if i would graduate from university with accreditation by AMBA?These three universities offer similar subjects in their MBA programs.In their entry requirments,Only Richmond University ask for Gmat scores from applicants.Difference between University of North London and Westminster University on their entry requirments is Ielts results.University of north london requires me to get minimum6.0 for IELTS.On the other hand, West minster uni is 6.5minimum.Would it be true that the more strict entry requirments university has,the better the university is.Any further advice would be appreciated. Thanking you.

Dear Sir/Madam
This is May here again.As I mentioned before,I am interested in Richmond University'MBA program which is an American university in UK.At richmond,do they provide mba students with their Master accredited by both U.K and U.S?I tried to figure out assessment of their MBA program,however,i failed to do it.Richmond at London is just one of their branch school?Is it recognized in U.S or U.K?In u.k,U.k.universities would be more recognized?Any advice you can offer would be appreciated.Thanking you.

rdodd 23-03-2002, 01:46 AM Just some thoughts which might help.
Richmond is a private college but is correctly accredited by the appropriate UK and US bodies (unlike some). But it's not a 'proper' university.
My personal preference for the universities you are looking at are (first perference at the top):
Uni of Greenwich
South Bank
East London
Westminster
North London
This is purely based on location and impression I get about the attention paid to the importance of their MBA. All of them aren't in the 'top teir' of UK universities but they still offer good programs. And they are all 'proper' universities if this is more important to you than having a program recognised in both the UK and US but maybe from a less well known institution.
Remember though that universities will be critical of private colleges just because they're not part of the 'establishment'.

I am not familiar with U.K.universities.I got offer from University of Greenwich and Westminster.Their MBAprogramme seem to be almost the same.it would be very tough for me to choose.Does anybody know which uni's MBA programme has better reputation in U.K. ?Any advice would be appreciated.Thank You.

lennyj 23-03-2002, 04:49 AM Westminster has the better reputation in the UK than Greenwich. It's entry grades are usually higher.

Jason Howard 02-04-2002, 07:03 PM On the weekend I spoke to someone who studied at a private American college in London. It wasn't Richmond and they didn't study an MBA but I thought their general comments might be useful in choosing between a private college and a UK university.
1. as a private college it attracted a number of students whose parents had paid for them to go. As a result their motivation to learn was not great. However, the standard of teaching was high and you could get a lot out of the course as long as you put in the work yourself - this might be different for the MBA;
2. the college attracted a lot of study abroad students who would only be around for 3 months which made it hard to form a social network. On an MBA you'll probably be working with the same group through-out your course so this shouldn't be an issue;
3. the material was more internationally/US focussed than might've been the case for a course run by a UK university.
Just one person's subjective comments...
I am going to apply for MA in management or post graduate diploma in management starting in September this year ,prior to my MBA which will be 2003intake.There are two reasons:one is that i would like to prepare for my MBA next year by doing MA or Pgd.The other is that i heard that doing Ma or pgd first would facilitate for me to proceed to the MBA.Is it true that doing MA or Pgd will make it easier for me to enter the MBA offered by the same uni?At the moment,all unis which i would like to go require high scores for GMAT for their MBA programme.However,if I enroll with MA or Pgd at the uni,do they still require GMAT?Any advice from you would be appreciated.Thanking You.

agcrisp 06-05-2002, 05:02 AM If you're looking for another way to decide which is the best school to study at, try and find out where their alumni end up, i.e. what jobs they get. Each campus will probably have a careers adviser who at the very least will be able to give you an idea of which companies regularly recruit the graduates. Then you can decide either because one set of alumni get more job offers, get higher paid jobs or get jobs that are of more interest to you.
Hi I am about to apply for MSc in Management and Regulation of Risk in LSE in order to prepare myself for the MBA which i will be pursuing next year.However,the course was not my first choice because initially i wanted to apply for their MSc in Management,however,there was already no vacancy in the course.I am not very interested in the Risk Management and am not going to intend to pursue my career into Insurance company.I pefer to study International Business. So far there are four MSc courses available in LSE which are related to somewhat business.
MSc in Management and Regulation of Risk OR
MSc in operational research OR
MSc Economics and Ecoomic history OR
MSc in Politics of the world Economy.
Which of these above would most benefit me and would be advantage for me in proceeding to the MBA(general)later on?
The course is competitive,hence i have to make a quick decision on this.Any advice offered from you would be very much appreciated.Thanking You. Regards, May
