Player sensitivty

Hi Everyone,

I've recently had a few DVDs that will skip in certain places when playing them on my Sony DVP-NS305. It doesnt do this for all DVDs and the ones that do skip always do it in the same places, obviously suggesting its the DVD itself causing the problem.

The thing is when I play the same DVDs on a Pansonic DMR-E75V (VHS/DVD Combo) they play fine with no skipping.

Is there such a thing as a DVD player being more or less sensitive to micro-scratches/imperfections in the DVD? and so more or less likely to skip.

If there is, is there something that you can look for in the technical specs of a player that will give you some idea of the players sensitivity?
