Hellooo,

Just want to know if there are free wireless hotspots in Auckland airport - in particular inside the departure lounge where u wait near the gates. Also are there pwr points to run laptops inside the departure lounge...cause my battery does not last that long like the Energizer dude and i just want it to be fully charged before i board the plane and enjoy some personal DVD's

Also anyone with wireless internet connectivity experience at the Los Angeles airport? Do they have pwr points and wireless hotspots easily available.

Thanks

there are wireless hotspots, but im 99.9% sure they arent free, telecom ones, so if you have an account you can use them or buy a prepaid card. most planes have powerpoints for laptops, but check with the airline before hand. no idea about la, but san fran has a city wide free wifi network

thanks tux,

Just checked with Qantas website and yes they do supply pwr suppy for laptops but only for First Class or Business class!!!....damm. Not that rich to afford that but i'll try talkiing to the nice flight attendents maybe they will be able to at least provide a charging point somewhere esle on the aircraft

But for Wi-fi i am just keen on airports having wi-fi so i can kill my boredom while waiting for flights.

From memory there is a Samsung booth near the departure gates upstairs at Auckland airport, and they have a couple of lappys with internet that you can use for free.

1. Are we allowed to carry a laptop computer on top of our usual 'hand-carried' luggage to the plane? I understand that they are very strict nowadays- strictly only allow 7.5 kg (or 7.0 kg) of one 'hand-carried' luggage bag of specific size per passenger.

2. Is it safe for the Laptop to go through the scanner when checking in?

Cheers

If you are talking about the metal finder thing then its fine, Do a search for my user name & 2005 as I asked the same question as you before I went to OZ in 2005 for a holiday.

lapto weighs 3.8kg and with the carry bag and battery stuff it is just about 5kg so that should be ok. Yeah i dont know about laptop going thru scanning machine. Previously i have seen people putting laptops in a plastic tray/container and it goes thru it.

I dont know if it does harm or what but i certainly dont wanna checkin thru the normal baggage

Are we allowed to carry a laptop computer on top of our usual 'hand-carried' luggage...Yes, the laptop is allowed to be in addition to the usual cabin baggage on the condition that it is in a 'slimline' case, i.e. you can't stuff the laptop bag. See here (http://airnz.co.nz/travelinfo/baggageinformation/cabin_baggage.htm) (Air NZ baggage page) for details on this.

Laptops aren't harmed by the X-Rays which are used at the security checkpoints, so you'll be safe there.

Yeah they're fine going through the scanner. But it surprises me that they're allowed on as hand luggage; considering the metal parts inside could be used to hide some dangerous stuff.
