Philips DVP5100 DVD player and Philips LCD TV 32PF7320/10

Hi,

Should connection like this work? :

TV: Philips LCD TV 32PF7320/10 with DVI-I input
cable: DVI-I to YPbPr cable (supplied with TV)
DVD Player Philips DVP5100: component video out YPbPr

I’ve tried this connection and it doesn’t work properly:
I can see only bad quality black and white picture on TV screen when switching TV to HD mode.

Does it mean that my TV, DVD player or cable is damaged?

Or maybe this kind of connection is suitable only for HD ready DVD players?

Did anyone have the same problem like me?

Black and white signals pass through the Y cable... Recheck your connections. Also, you might see if yor are running interlaced or progressive scan.

So I’m still wondering why Philips gives this cable (DVI-I to YPbPr) with TV set ?
Is it suitable only for HD ready equipment and not good for standard DVD players with component video out YPbPr ?

Sorry my bad - the cable will work fine as supplied by Philips.

The issue could be you need to tell the dvd player to output RGB via component rather than SCART in the settings within it and also check your connections are solid.

I am just looking into the issue further with Philips now

All they say is to check that the output settings on the dvd player match the input settings on the TV.

Is this the setting I need (quote from manual) ? :

Switching the YUV/RGB

This setting allows you to toggle the
output of the video signal between RGB
(on scart) and Y Pb Pr (YUV).

1 In ‘VIDEO SETUP PAGE’, press 3 4 to
highlight {COMPONENT}, then press 2.
YUV
Select this for Y Pb Pr connection.
RGB
Select this for Scart connection.

2 Press 3 4 to select a setting, then press
OK to confirm your selection.
Warning:
When the player is set to Y Pb Pr
(YUV), some TV may not properly
synchronise with player on the
SCART connector.

...or does it mean that its possible to switch the YUV/RGB
only on SCART but not on composite  ?

on DVD player box they say : "RGB on SCART" but nothing like "RGB on component" :)

Anyway, do you think that picture quality by Component--DVI connection would be any better then by quality SCART lead ?

.... and this is what Philips tech support replied:

"With regards to your query we can advise that from your explanation
the connections you are using are correct, however you will need to
make sure that the DVD player is set to output the progressive scan
signal. If the picture is still black and white after you have done
this there is a possibility that the cable is faulty. If this is the
case we suggest you contact your retailer who will be able to supply
you with a replacement cable."

I think I need to buy this DVD again and check everything once more
