Yesterday I tried to install Linux Debian unsuccesfully (booting from instalation cd). In the proces of instalation I reformated my second partition, which was already created in DiskUtility in OS X. Then I got stuck so I restarted my power book coming back to OS X. The second partition was lost in finder as well as in disk utility. At the moment I'm missing 8 GB of the capacity. How can I recreate this lost space without having to erase and reformat the whole hard disk? Thanks for help.

You haven't made it clear if you are missing space on the OS X partition or if you are asking about recovering access to the other partition.
In general, you should have a full backup before adventuring into Linux installation or anything that involves reformatting, etc.
The easiest thing to do (assuming a good backup) would be to completely erase the disk and reinstall OS X.

I'm asking about recovering acces to the other nonOSX partition which was intented to host Linux. I don't see it. I made a back up but still I would prefer any other solution than reinstall.

You might be able to recover it by using the new facilities added to 'diskutil' in 10.4.6:

Probably not - because this new facility apparently only applies to GPT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table)-drives.
