Screen door DVD's

Quick questions. Ehy do Standard DVD's have that screen door effect. My HDTV programming looks great but movies when its black expecially have that screen door effect. I can see the vertical nd horizontal lines. I have a 32 inch LG LCD and from what I know LCD's dont have this like some older DLP sets. Is it just SD DVD that does this ? I watched X-men on TV tonight and although the resolution and color were crap there weren't any lines like I see on DVD's. Any info is great. Thanks!

I find just the opposite, many Freeview programs have this "shadow like" background over bright areas, however my DVDs played via 576P component
suffer much less with this odd effect.

try an upscaling player, it could be the tv using less pixels for 576i input sources. i take it it is a projection tv?

on fixed panel displays youd get screen door based on distance from screen

Afaik, it is the PJ that causes it (it is quite noticeable on my Panny AE100). However, it depends on the signal or what DVD it is to how noticeanble it is.
