i found on component progressive its best to keep all the settings to full especially sharpness as you lose detail if you dont, on progressive auto1 is best by far.

i got this player today and for the money its a good player, but leaves you wanting more. Mine is quite noisy when you dont have the sound up. General build quality looks good even for its light weight. Cd play back is okay but nothing special. The video is quite good but lags behind in deinterlacing unlike my previous phillips q50 which had the faroudja chip. Mind you that cost me twice as much three years ago.

Havent tried the upscaling

I've got a 3yr old SD Panny plasma  I'd suggest trying all settings, then sit back and see what looks best for your set up

Set everything to zero and make adjustments on your display.Far more accurate as you have only one set of variables.

Have had time to use this player more. I take it back about the sound it is very good for cd play . Just changed the cables at the back for better sound and vision.

Its not as good as a faroudja chip for progressive but i found the progressive setting video is the best. Still there is not much in it as the D/A converter is 11bit on my old one compared to this one 10 bit.

I found setting are subjective but the gamma correction plays a big difference in getting the most out of the detail.

I watched American haunting which was very grainy but it might have been the style of film, Madagasca looked brilliant though will tinker a bit more tonight:thumbsup:

try these settings now adn seems quite nice

brightness 0
contrast 0
colour 6
gamma 0
sharpness 6

Then use the controls on the tv to get little more contrast or brightness in there.

i got mine this afternoon (multi-region ?25 ish @ Richer sounds). It's a little light and the remote feels a bit cheap but it looks good.

The HDMI lead i have ordered hasn't come yet so using component. At first I was not impressed with the PQ but adjustments in the DVD menu made a huge difference and am happy.

Sound has impressed me also in both movie and CD playback. I tried out Top Gun and it sounded great in DTS ES. I was suprised with the CD playback too due to it being a budget DVD player. The player is virtually silent.

Hasn't rejected any disc i have tried yet. I havn't tried the DivX playback but will do. Hopefully the HDMI lead should come tommorrow then will try that out.

Have you tried adjusting sharpness to about -3 or -4 ?
It makes a big difference and gets rid of grain.

Thats the beauty of this player compared to the faroudja chip players the grain is less but detail is less as well, so its more balanced picture. I would keep sharpness to full as you dont lose fine detail.
