I have a Sony DVPNS955 dvd player which is really good. Great picture and all that, and I'm getting a plasma delivered this week so I'll finally be able to make use of the prog scan on the player!
However, the plasma I've ordered is a Panasonic (TH42PX60) and comes with a free multiregion Panny DMRES15 recorder, which also has prog scan, component outs, etc. The Sony is about a year or so old and the Panny a new model so I'm wondering if it's worth me keeping both, the Sony for DVD playback, or if I should just sell the Sony (thus helping add to the cost of the plasma).
Any comments? Is anyone familiar with both of these units?
Cheers guys.
M8 what i would do is get your plasma and try both out and see the PQ what it is like. If the recorder has pro scan and is good picture quality wise sell the sony if not keep both because you will need the panny for recording stuff.
You can also sell the sony and buy an upscaling player for your plasma, unless the dvpns955 does this.

Cheers. Yeah, that makes sense. Lon term I'll get a HD/blu-ray player anyway so it makes sense to sell the Sony now if the Panny is good enough! Roll on Thursday when it's delivered......!

I've got a Panasonic 32" LCD, and a Pioneer 585a DVD player. I recently bought a Pioneer 433H DVD recorder, and the video output was very poor compared to the 585. It's worth checking the specs of the video DACS which should give you an immediate idea of if the Panasonic is likely to match your Sony.
In my case, the 433H has a video DAC considered to be only average performance-wise in early 2004 by HCC magazine (10bit 54hz), whereas the 585's is far better (12bit 108hz). The 433 produced a very unstable, flickery image.
