DVDs Getting Harder to Play?

Hi,

I'm currently using a four year old Pioneer 656 DVD player. I've noticed recently that it has started freezing on rented DVDs just after the trailers have played and just as the main menu is loading. My own older DVDs seem to still play fine. This even occurs on pristine brand new rental DVDs. I'm wondering whether all the anti-piracy voodoo that's applied to newer DVDs is throwing the player out of kilter.

Any thoughts?

Regards,

Jules.

my 3 year old phillips started to do the same. Usually after about an hour of viewing it would just freeze and show disc error. I did take it to have it looked at and the guy said to me its either the lazer or some other electronic part but not worth fixing.

If it was something to do with piracy protection it would show anything at all before doing this i would suspect.
