Denon 2930 |
Ron240 04-02-2007, 9:01 AM A new DVD player will be my last component in a comprehensive upgrade to my home cinema experience.
I have decided on the Denon 2930....i know there are other alternatives, but it does seem very highly rated, and it will match well with my Denon 1907.
My chosen place of purchase for this player is Leading Edge Concepts, having bought 2 previous players from them and received excellent service. The problem is....i must have it in black, but they have only ever had it in silver. I e-mailed them early January, and they said they were expecting it in black the following week. Its still never appeared,so i e-mailed again last Thursday to politely enquire if they are having difficulty in obtaining it in black? Have had no reply at all. :(
I have seen other retailers with the black model in stock, but as far as i can see....LE Concepts are the only ones that guarantee multi-region and RCE playback. Plus they have a price match policy that covers web only as well as retail shops.
I has considered buying the Toshiba HD-E1,but have been put off by the uncertainty of the format, and (current) inability to play my region 1 discs.
So,i would rather go for a good quality, mid range player, with a proven track record, that represents a significant upgrade to what i currently use -Toshiba SD210E,which i have always found to be excellent.
I know the Denon 2930 is a relatively new model, but can anybody that has purchased one tell me briefly what they think about it please? Are you happy with it,did it provide any noticeable upgrade in picture quality to what you were used to?
I am assuming(hoping),that because it is a completely different machine, there are absolutely none of the lip-synch issues that has plagued the 1930?
Also, does anybody know if it is a hardware or software modification to enable multi-region playback?
Buy a black one from another retailer and use this handset hack to make it multiregion:-

Thanks Jase.
I had read that thread, and must admit i have considered doing exactly that, but there is always an uncertainty as to whether it will work in 100% of cases.
To be honest,i would feel more comfortable buying from LE Concepts, purely for the fact that the multi region and importantly,RCE playback is guaranteed to work.

Do LE concepts send it out to you? Retailers aren't allowed to do that with Denons 2930 which means they're probably not authorised. You have to go pick em up from a shop normally. Does this mean maybe you don't get a manufacturers guarantee? Fine if they offer you their own but check and be careful...!

Al,
After reading what you have said,i checked 3 websites that i know have stock of the 2930,and sure enough there was no online ordering facility for this or the 3930,although the lower models in the range, and from other manufacturers appeared to be fine. So what you are saying would appear to be true.
I done more checking, and found that LE Concepts do indeed provide their own warranty on multi-region dvd players.
This is a quote from their terms:-
"All Warranties are covered by their respective manufacturers excluding Multi-Region DVD Players.
Multi-Region DVD players are covered by a 12 month, 45 day repair or replace warranty, that is, if your DVD player develops a fault, simply return the same to us and if we're not able to obtain the spare part(s) from the manufacturer within 45 working days we will replace the machine, like for like"
I do need have one delivered, because there is no place close to me(that i am aware of) that has a competitive price for this model unfortunately. :(
birminghamhifi 05-02-2007, 6:21 PM Seems ok if they will do that.
I'd be tempted to get some kind of email commitment from their customer service that it comes with a guarantee. Bear in mind also that Denon normally comes with a two year gtee so your getting less than the proper dealership but at least your buying a product the manufacturers have a bit of faith in. And the multiregion is just a code not a software upgrade that's available on this site.
