He would'nt get sound through the HDMI, as its not Output througt it thats why !!!!, need to use the audio out jacks as well.

Sound is available through HDMI, but not through DVI or over component.

Alex, Ecom is right HDMI should carry High Def image as well as 5.1 Sound.

sound is available thru the 850/950 via hdmi, but you have to switch the output from bitstream to PCM, as the current hdmi cables won't accept bitstream. thats how you get the "hdmi audio not supported" messages when you connect you dvd player to your amp via optical 5.1 bitstream, as it also tries to send the audio to the tv via hdmi
