According to the manual for my new BenQ w100 projector, it supports 720 and 1080i but when i try to upscale, my dvd player is having none of it. It stays stuck on 480p.
Im using a hdmi to dvi cable to connect the two. Would this cable be causing a problem? Have i done something wrong?
I apologise if im asking a stupid question but my av knowledge is pretty low.
Help? :lease:

that is a 480p projector so upscaling is useless! since your PAL DVDs are 576p what you really should do is DOWNscale them if anything!
you should always try and have a signal that is the same as the resolution of your display. that is why upscaling has started since the HD tvs came.
a 480p dont need it.

to add to What was said above. You also need the latest firmware from the Philips site to enable upscaling with an HDMI to DVI cable.

so, that was a stupid question
Thanks for your help fellas
Had exactly same problem earlier this week and posted up. Downloaded and installed new update as previous firmware prevented upscaling via HDMI-DVI lead (worked fine before on HDMI lead to TV). Anyway it is worth the bother because picture quality on my Benq W100 improved dramtically ! I became concerned as when feeding 1080i via sky hd picture was fantastic but when putting DVD on at 480 it was back to bad old days. Noticed now that DVD won't always upscale when button on player is pressed, but will do through on screen menu. Can't comment on technical aspect of this but end results are worth it!

I had a go at downloading the firmware for my dvp5960/05 but i cant seem to get it to work.
I found the firmware on the Philips site and downloaded it. I unzipped the folder by right clicking on the zipped file and selecting 'extract file'. I put a blank cd-r into my computer and selected Roxio Creator LE and chose 'create data disc'. I then selected 'add' and chose the firmware file. I burned the disc and put it into my dvd player. I got a blue and white screen with '00:00 00:00' at the top, '001/001' just below it, below that is a pic of a blue file, then below that in the blue window is a yellow file with dvp5960_05_fus written next to it. when i click 'ok' on my remote the 'dvp5960_05_fus' moves up next to the blue file but nothing else happens. After this i tried burning the firmware onto a disc using nero 6 but that didnt work at all.
Can anyone see what i'm doing wrong?
I am, unfortunately, rather crap with this kinda thing.
Surprised myself by managing to do this but the file I extracted was a DVP5960_12 BIN File 1600k. Just used windows xp to write the file to cd and worked fine. If you want file emailed pm. Recognised software update as soon as cd loaded, but wait until itejects cd and leave door open until machine switches itself off.

cheers gmp,
worked a treat, just watched a couple of dvds very impressed with the picture, got another little problem now:mad: cant seem to get 5.1 sound using my amp, tried diffrent audio settings but just got stereo! :thumbsdow
Its a bit like deja vu this as reading all stuff that I had problem with earlier this week. Had same problem, select digital audio output from screen menu. Highlight either PCM or ALL and reselect (can't remember which) and wait couple of secs and 5.1 magically reappears on amp.

I managed to do it...
It seems like the disc wouldnt copy properly using Nero, so I used the windows xp copier instead (after gmp mentioned it) and it worked a treat.
To be honest, i havent really noticed much difference in the pic quality but im happy. :)
