My call would be the Samsung DVD-HD860. Upscaling to 720p/1080i on HDMI or component.

Get the Sony 76H
Cheers for replies dudes :)
So.. which is better? :P
The sony seems to have more control over the picture e.g. sharpness and noise reduction, however the Samsung does DivX. So the question is, what do i trade off....
At the moent I'm leaning towards the Samsung...

The Sony ALSO plays divx.
I'm getting the Sony unit. It's supposed to be a good unit and it'll look good on top of my STR-DA1200ES too. :smashin:
Note:Playback of DVD-R/-RW/+R/+RW and CD-R/RW with DivX (http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct.action?product=DVP-NS76H&site=odw_en_GB&pageType=Overview&category=DVD+Player)
Ah cheers for that dude :)
Now I'm in a real pickle. I'm rocking a Samsung TV, so the Samsung DVD would go nicely - and it is cheaper, but the Sony seems to be better.
What to do

Well i've read good reviews of the Samsung too. I'm not too sure of the exact specs of both machines, but if they do everything that you'll need them for, then just get the one that'll look better with your equiment or the one that is cheapest, I'm sure i've seen the Samsung online for about £70. The Sony is about £90.
