Pioneer 757 problems need help

I have just bought a pioneer dv-757 from someone on ebay. I have, up till now, been using my old player using the Scark RGB connection and purchased this player to use the progressive scan feature. I am using a Panasonic 36pl32 Television.

when watching disks there is a fairly regular instability in the picture thay looks like a wobble. it runs accross the screen and takes up perhaps an inch or so at a time. If I rewind the disk then watch the same part again it does it again. I have tried using another player with progressive scan and this does not happen. I have also tried just using the component without the progressive scan and again it seems fine.

Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this? Its odd how id does it at the same places on the disks, almost like it is a fault on the disk, however it plays ok on another machine and when not using progressive scan.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just a shot in the dark, but I would just make sure all the video output settings are at their factory preset levels - ie contrast, brightness and sharpness at 0, NR off, gamma off and so on.

I have the same problem with a 757 can`t use progressive scan with my samsung sp50 dlp tv as it causes a picture judder, but is fine on other tvs and my pj. Not all 757s support pal progressive scan, some older ones support ntsc only. You could reset the player, hold stop and power the player up, see if that helps. But from reviews I have read about your tv the deinterlacing on your set is very good it might be better than the 757.

Thanks for your replies, in response to sweetiepies reply I have doen as you suuggested. It does it only on PAL disks and not on NTSC. Is there a way to fix this? A firmware upgrade perhaps.

I'll email pioneer and see what they have to say about this and anything they can do to remedy it.

Thanks again

There is no firmware upgrade that I am aware of, I owned the original 757 with ntsc prog scan only, which I sold and then bought the later model. I would use interlaced on the 757 and let your tv do the work

Sweetiepie what do you mean by let the TV do the work? If I use just the component input but not progressive scan I need to change the TV to 100 Hz mode. Is this not lower quality then progressive.

I have discovered that Pioneer do an upgrade but it costs around ?5 to do but I am pushing them on this, just waiting for them to get back to me.

Thanks again

Usually tvs that take a prog scan input have their own deinterlacer, so no matter what you put into it is converted to a prog scan image
Is this (http://www.homecinemachoice.com/cgi-bin/displayreview.php?reviewid=4292) your set
If it is, it mentions scan mode which gives a prog scan image from pal and ntsc, and is it worth paying £85 to upgrade as most tvs will deinterlace now days.

Thanks again Sweetiepie.

I am not sure if I am understanding you correctly. In the setup menu on the DVD player there is the option for progressive and interlaced under component. On the TV on the component input under the scan option it has progressive and 100 Hz. If I select progressive on both then I get a picture, however with the afore mentioned problems. If I change the dvd player to interlaced, still using the component, and keep the tv set for progressive I get a mess. I have to change the tv to 100 Hz to get a picture.

I am assuming this is not changing the interlaced image from the DVD player to a progressive scan image. I cannot see another way to make the tv show the image as progressive.

Any thoughts??

Sounds like your tv can`t take an interlaced signal via component, shame as this would have sorted your problem. Looks like you will have to upgrade the 757 or sell it and buy a pal prog scan 757 or anothe player.
One other thing do you have the video out put set to auto on the pioneer, its set by holding the >>l button and powering up.
If you decide to get rid of the 757 give me a shout I might be interested:thumbsup:
